Normal Human Kidney Cortical cells (NhKC)Â Â are isolated from the kidney cortex after removal of the kidney capsule and medulla.
The cell composition is a heterogeneous population of cells composed by different types of cells. The major type of cells that can be identified are:
- Proximal tubules
- Distal tubules
- Endothelial cells (including glomerular endothelial cells)
- Mesangial cells
- Podocytes
- Interstitial fibroblast
- Residing renal adult progenitor cells
- Juxtaglomerular cells
Other than the adult progenitor cells, the NhKC are terminally differentiated.
